It didn't seem like Caroline was angst. The one time Ridge was asked to choose, he chose Caroline without so much as a second thought.

Caroline was just a story. It was obvious Ridge still loved Brooke when he got dunked in the water but he and Brooke let it go for Katie.
Then they wanted Bill free for Katie and Brooke gave her sister a chance.
They were interesting plots meant to build interest after RM and SF left.
Caroline was good with Rick and Thomas!
