Why did Thomas tell Douglas about the proposal?

Tom explained why he was leaving to move on…..he told the truth..kid deserved to know why

I guess, but does Thomas think it's good to make Douglas feel like he isn't good enough for Hope? There has to be a better way. Douglas was talking like he was 30 years old.

Thomas didn't make Douglas feel like he wasn't good enough for Hope. Douglas came to that conclusion on his own. Normal conclusions for a kid his age whose parents were playing family and giving him hope for a permanent family together.
