First of all the Caridge breakup was the only poorly written part of their love story. It was all based on a misunderstanding that was never cleared up. BB practically wrote Caroline off after that so it's impossible to draw broad conclusions about them pining for each other. Ridge's grief was front and center when Caroline died. I was actually grateful they focused on Ridge's grief and not Thomas's. All that having been said my point is that Ridge loves Brooke but he's lost perspective and believes their love is more grandiose than it actually is.
