There was nothing easy about his relationship with Taylor. She was his rebound 3rd choice from day-1. He only married her after Caroline I's death and only because Brooke was unavailable. He emotionally cheated on Taylor with Brooke for years. He couldn't stop interfering in Brooke's other relationships, pining for Brooke and professing his love for Brooke when he was with Taylor. He knocked up Morgan behind Taylor's back, and he kissed Lauren. Don't even get me started on Taylor who bedded James, kissed Thorne and Hector and lied about it. Killed his SIL and lied about it. Tried to steal his baby and lied about it. Covered up, benefited from and thanked Stephanie's crap. And then there is all the ugly history of lies and manipulations that brought them together. If Ridge loved Taylor so much, he wouldn't have married Brooke twice so quickly after her death.
Caroline II? Sure he loved her, but not like he loved Brooke. At the end of the day, Ridge is the one who CHOSE to end this marriage. He served Caroline with divorce papers overnight and decided to chase after Brooke and when she was with Bill. He didn't pine for Caroline at all, once they were done. If his feelings for Caroline were that strong, he would have tried harder to make it work. He was hardly sad when she died. He sure didn't look like someone who lost his destiny at Caroline's funerals. He was too busy turning down Taylor's desperate attempt to kiss him and tell her he was in love with Brooke.

Your last line has me intrigued. I must have been otherwise engaged during the Caroline II funeral, I don't even remember it. But, I would like to go and watch Taylor trying to make out with Ridge and him telling her to leave him alone. LOL.
