Caroline never had feelings for Thomas. She was trying to create this illusion of a family for Douglas hence only ever referring to Thomas as "the father of her child".

Why did she go along with the scheme she was fake dying to get him away from Sally, if she never had feelings for him? She was home free away from him, so why go along with the lie?
