But they were the original true love story. Ridge only moved on with Brooke because Caroline married Thorne. The only reason why he stayed was the baby. When he had a choice he always picked Caroline until she died. Ridge has called Brooke the obstacle more than once. She was the a loser and so was Taylor.

This soap has always been about ridge falling for Brooke as karma to Stephanie for her deceit to Eric.

Always Bridge! From the start. Just took time to build the story. I heard the actress for Caroline wasn't even supposed to stay as long as she did. That's what I "heard," so take that for what it is.
