Nobody Understands Shared Custody

Thomas and Hope have shared custody of Douglas. That means they're supposed to be splitting time equal yet Liam and Brooke don't seem to understand that concept. They act like Thomas only has supervised visitation. They both keep referring to Brooke's cabin as his home but in reality he's got two homes and Hope can't monopolize him.

And obviously Tom does not understand shared custody either. If he did he would know that he does not have a right to keep Douglas as long as he has, without Hope's permission. They share custody, so he needs to share it. Now Hope has not demanded the kid back, yet. So, this is on her. But, in shared custody with a child under a certain age this is how it would go down. There is usually a physical custodial parent. I think we have been led to believe that the physical custodial parent is Hope, since Douglas was shown to primarily be living with her. That means that Tom gets parenting time. He would have a right to Douglas every other weekend, starting at 5PM Friday until 5PM Sunday. He would have him every Wednesday for overnight. They would trade off holidays, every other year. Each parent would have the child for their respective Mother's or Father's Day. Tom would get him for spring break, and 2 weeks in the summer. If Hope is the custodial parent, she has every right to go to Eric's and pack up Douglas and take him home with her, if it were not Tom's days to have him. This is on Hope. And, it is absolutely none of Brooke or Taylor or Steffy or Ridge's business. This is up to Hope. Not even Tom would have a say in whether or not Douglas can be there 24/7 for weeks. If they share joint physical custody, then Douglas would spend one week with Tom, and one week with Hope. And neither has to allow the other to see him during their week. They cannot refuse to let the child talk to them on the phone, but they do not have to allow the parent to see them on their week. I think Hope is trying to keep things peaceful for Douglas' sake. It might be a mistake given that the Hamilton Coven is trying to turn her into nothing more than a babysitter. She should probably talk to Tom about setting up a proper parenting schedule, be it the every other weekend thing for him, or the every other week thing, between both of them.
