How will the show handle the adoption aspect of this story?

I think a judge would want to know why Liam annulled his marriage to Steffy. He didn't just wake up one morning and decided he was over Steffy and wanted Hope instead.
Steffy slept with her FIL, kept it secret and took a paternity test. This is the one and only reason why this marriage ended. This was mostly Steffy's fault. Infidelity totally justifies a divorce when 2 parents fight over the custody of a child.

In Douglas' case, I don't know how it will be handled but one thing is clear, Thomas should never have sole custody. He signed papers several years ago giving Hope joint custody. The extension of time to change his mind is obviously finished today. Hope has joint custody hasn't done anything wrong.

Liam didn't give up any rights to his kid through an annulment. All that happens is that paternity has to be reestablished, and the court will either make them take a paternity test or Steffy will agree that Kelly is Liam's.

Carter, the attorney, called the papers Hope and Thomas signed "Adoption" papers, per the transcripts.
