the adoption makes no difference, they're both his parents, whether biologically or adoptively
either they share custody 50/50 or one of them will be the custodial parent while the other has visitation,
currently it's thomas that has visitation, but that's what they're aiming to change

The adoption makes every difference because without it, Hope has no say and can't even legally call herself Douglas' guardian.
