Don' t you have in your real life people /couples/ who move forward because of such "ultimatums"?
It happens all the time in mine. No offense here.

The problem here is that both people in the relationship knew the deal. It was Thomas who changed, yet Hope is being blamed. I think ultimatums are terrible. Anyone I know and deal with, we have honest dialog and explain feelings (like what Hope has already told Thomas). If Thomas was not happy with the deal he already agreed to, he could have simply told Hope that he is no longer good with it and cannot keep on. That is the healthy and proper thing to do. Not to deliver a "now or never" ultimatum like a child. No offense here.
