You're seriously calling a mental illness "folly"?
What Rick and Maya did to Aly was sick, but they didn't cause Aly's illness, she was already portrayed as a disturbed child shortly after her mother's death. The reason for her issues as a teenager was that Thorne had made the huge mistake of pushing Taylor on his little daughter even after he knew that she was responsible for Darla's death and that the WRP believed it was a good idea to play house with a little girl whose mother she had killed.
