This is just a buch of excuses to justify his behavior. No kind of brain surgery could possibly justify what he did.
Do you really want a list of all the reasons why Thomas' "love" for his son his fake and why they shouldn't live together?

Push Liam and get rid of him once and for all and then kidnap his own wife and separate her from her daughter. In just 1 episode he tried to destroy the life of the 2 people who saved his son.
