Oh wow, a lung transplant for lung cancer? That seems like a real possibility. I didn't know it was possible. And yes his age would play a role or he might not have been willing to look for a donor.

My mother-in-law died from lung cancer ( long before our marriage) but it is so nice to see how far treatment has come.

I suppose this would only be possible if there are no metastases yet? Otherwise the new lung would be of no help as people mostly die from the metastases and not from the primary tumor.

That is true. It often goes to the brain. I suppose it would have to be caught early.

Luckily for Eric, it's B&B medical world, so it won't matter.
