Possible evidence of a re-write

That article is from December. I doubt anyone (not even Don) knew what Bell had in mind for Shill. Maybe he changed his mind, maybe it was the plan all along, we will never know.

So many viewers on this forum (and other pages) were so sure they would rewrite Bill's shooting and make someone else the shooter. But that didn't happen.

Yeah, they did, but that wasn't based upon anything any actors said. I took DD's words to mean what they meant back then and based my opinion of the SL on that. I guess I can't listen to actors anymore.

I don't think that actors always know where the SL (and Bell) is really going to.
They get their scripts for several episodes, but only occasionally Bell sits down with them and explains his plans/intentions.

In Dec. DD only knew/ mentioned what had been in the scripts. Bill telling everyone that his feelings for Sheila are real and he understands and has sympathy for Sheila. He doesn't want Steffy to get hurt but Bill has seen Sheila in ways the others have not
- and we then got the backstory how they had connected while being lonely.

In February, DD might already have known where the SL really leads to. He had an interview with Michael Maloney and then it fitted already more with the current SL, although DD still did not reveal anything.

DD: The difference between the characters has been established. Sheila’s a homicidal maniac. Bill’s a “win at all costs” calculating character. He deals in the highest of high-stakes business. It is in him to win. It defines him. It feeds him. The behavior you’ve seen from Bill [with Sheila] is about that. He’s a complicated person. He’s more the head of a mafia family than he is crazed villain. There’s a difference.

DD: Bill knows he’s pushed women away with his behavior. He’s in a place where he’s self-punishing. What he deserves is Sheila. What he thinks he’s worthy of is Sheila. She’s the punishment for the mistakes that he’s made. In a way, Bill’s protecting the women in his life from being hurt by him by being with Sheila.
It’s not that he’s being a hero. In some ways, yes, it’s heroic that he’s trying to remove people from his life because all he does is hurt the people he loves, even his kids. This is what’s driving him emotionally. Brad has said to [the other women in his life] that Sheila will not be a threat to them. He’s said, “I give you my word.

_____________
DD might have known then where the SL was leading to, or again, he might have just talked based on the scripts he had read yet at that time (and when Bill told everyone that he would not allow Sheila to hurt anyone, that he would keep her in line).
