Did Steffy really just say Taylor would never ever cheat?

1/4/06:

Taylor: No, no. Ridge and I need to be completely honest. Stephanie, there's a secret that I've been keeping. It's about an indiscretion from my past. And I wrote a letter about it once to Ridge to tell him about it, but he didn't see the letter, and we never talked about it. But it's time that he knows the truth.

Stephanie: No, I do not want you to tell Ridge. Look, I know what this is about. I know you slept with James. But this is so insignificant now, after all the years that have passed. I do not want you to tell your husband. If you do, you'll lose him. I don't want that to happen.

I have no idea how she knew he did not see it, but she knew. And, this is straight from the transcript.

If it is in the transcripts, I guess we are to assume now that is what happened. But it does seem like a rewrite that is pretty inconsistent with what was shown on screen in 1994. It still makes no sense to me how she would know that Ridge did not receive the letter, and apparently NOT know that Stephanie also knew it. That's the way it seems in the 2006 transcripts - that she is confessing to Stephanie something about her past, and Stephanie has to tell her that she already knows what it is about - which makes zero sense since Stephanie is the REASON Ridge didn't receive the letter.

Like, how is it possible for Taylor to know that the letter was intercepted, without knowing HOW it was intercepted or BY WHOM? I put this down to the same kind of writing that had Taylor drink a gin and tonic the other day.

I guess it's possible that Stephanie told Jack (off screen) that she never gave Ridge the letter, and then for Jack to eventually have told Taylor (off screen) that Ridge somehow never got the letter, and for Jack to have refused to explain to Taylor how that happened (for some reason). But it does seem pretty nonsensical.
