I agree, he does care about the show otherwise he could dump it at any time before he signs on the dotted line to continue.

He just likes being boss and is not going to bend or listen to fan bases, one side or the other. If that, he would constantly be going against what he wants to write and happen, never gonna change that. On other soaps most writers write what they want but they do have to have the ok from the network/sponsors who simply will not go along with everything. Until very recent years that would include interracial pairing or even same sex marriage. Now more and more things are accepted but occasionally something will come up and the network won't ok it.

B&B is in a little different category than the other 3 soaps in that it is #1 worldwide, not just in the US, so Sony or any other entity would not be able to just take over and continue.
