What was the point of the Deacon/Taylor scenes?

I would really like to see Brooke become independent of a man for a while. She needs to find out about Ridge kissing Taylor and dump his butt!! She could have platonic family get togethers with Deacon, Hope and grandkids (Ridge would go nuts) and become a strong female character and quit apologizing to everyone. But, I'm sure Bell will not write such a s/l for her.

She could retire from forester a little early go live by Rick …

She is the star of the show. It would make more sense to send Taylor back to wherever she crawled out of this last time after she ran away to hide.
