What was the point of the Deacon/Taylor scenes?

It seems like Tridge is getting back together (fine with me), but I wonder what was even the point of the scenes of Teacon that seemed to be a chemistry test if they were not planning anything with it…

Tease or they will eventually get together after Ridge will leave Taylor at the altar for the 3rd time once he will find out that she was friendly with Deacon behind his back.
