John McCook on the end of Quinn and Eric and back to Donna

This gives me hope…to know the actors themselves who portray the characters believe there should be some changes. From a John McCook interview:

The actor says that he and Gareis believe Donna will, in fact, need to undergo at least a few changes. “The cuteness and the coquettishness don’t have to go out the window, but it would probably become a private thing. It might be interesting to see him have Donna dress differently and behave differently. It would be almost a Pygmalion story, in a way. Could she do that while still retaining the essence of the flirty, sexy woman he’s been charmed by for so many years?”

And as to the ending or Eric and Quinn’s marriage..this is how I saw it and thought it cleaned up some of the mess that has been made of their relationship by each of them…as he says, “not as ugly as it might have been:”

Even as Eric is contemplating his future, the audience — and McCook — is still reeling from the whirlwind of events which led to the Forrester patriarch’s current marriage crumbling. “When it came time for that intense conversation,” he says, “it was all done in one episode. Honestly, it deserved a week of shows, but that’s not my decision. Rena [Sofer, Quinn] and I were freaked out that we had to wrap this relationship up in 15 minutes. But the scenes were very, very engaging. To have them say to one another, ‘Listen, we’ve had a good run. We were actually meant to be together for a time, but not anymore.'”

Despite how quickly the relationship was severed, McCook believes it worked because of where the characters found themselves. “They are both in love with other people,” he shrugs. “They acknowledged that and now have a chance to turn the page, which makes it not as ugly as it might otherwise have been.”

Thank you for sharing this Grannysmith.

I think Donna could retain the happiness and sunshine of her character without being so flirty in public, like at FC. Charming doesn't have to be flirty. She can save the flirtatiousness for Eric alone. They've changed the way Brooke dresses and acts without damaging her character. She's far less sexy now. She's much more sedate, in what she wears and how she acts, and it looks fine on her. She's still Brooke, just a more mature version. It can work for Donna, too, in my opinion.

I, for one, am very glad they did the end of Eric and Quinn's marriage in one day and didn't drag it out for a week. So many things on this show move way too slowly, it gets boring very fast. With Quinn's mischief-making in Ridge and Brooke's marriage, her hatred of the Logans, who Eric loves, and her affair with Carter and the resulting lack of trust on Eric's part, I wouldn't say Eric and Quinn had a "good run," though. I have to disagree with John McCook on that one. I think they had a very troubled run. I do agree the end of the marriage wasn't as ugly as it could have been, though, had Quinn not been wanting to be with Carter. But, we still have to see how the divorce will play out.

Thanks again. Always nice to know the characters' take on things.
