The problem I see coming after today is NOT Steffy trying to control Finn's feelings, but Finn controling Steffy's.

I don't think Steffy should be forced to have any relationship with Sheila, but Steffy does what Steffy wants to do. Steffy is controlling. Finn has never demonstrated being controlling. He has always just gone with the flow.
