If she was never caught by Liam she probably would have continued to have an affair with Thomas in private. She's only sorry because she got caught, before Liam confronted her she showed no remorse or regret for the kiss in Rome. I don't see this as a rebound at all especially considering she has been fantasizing about Thomas for months. A rebound would be opting for a man that she doesn't actually want but that's not the case, she very much wants Thomas.
