Sounds like a case of classic transference to me from a psychological standpoint.
Again I'm guessing we've got a mental health crisis ahead for Hope. Also, I've said this before MH issues run in The Logan Family. Wish the writers would acknowledge that fact. We viewers can name every instance that has occurred for Brooke Katie and Storm. And it all stems from Stephen's leaving the family.

I don't remember any of the Logans ever being diagnosed with a mental illness. The only mentally ill (confirmed) people were Pam and Aly. Pam had a tumor. Aly was bipolar and had emotional and behavioral disorders. They were both diagnosed by doctors and got help.

The Logans all had issues but there was never anything mentally wrong. Storm shot Stephanie because he held her responsible for Brooke's rape. Stephen never had an illness, he consciously planned Stephanie's murder. Brooke had some crisis around 1995-1996 when she ran to Barbado with the 2 dolls but she sure never had such fantasies of another guy. No medical diagnosis as far as I can remember. Katie had a postnatal depression. She also had some issues with alcohol but nothing mental.
