Perhaps Douglas feels that his father needs a moral compass and wants to live with him to keep an eye on him?

That would make him the “parent” keeping an eye on his own father. Sad.

A real court would not allow a child living with a father he has to keep an eye on...or perhaps because "Daddy is all alone while Mommy has Liam and Beth" (another reason for Douglas choosing his father perhaps)...but we know of course that not a court will decide this but Bell and his writers...
