The article says she's on the phone with Brooke gloating. If she's on the phone she's clearly not hiding her actions. As far as it being childish, I'll buy that.

Whose phone? Her dad's? Why would she or Tom be answering their dad's phone when it rings and they can see it is Brooke? If she is not scheming, shouldn't she just let it go to VM? And, why wouldn't Ridge have his phone with him? Does he misplace it like the did the time Tom took it?

Sounds like nothing but scheming to me.
