Why isn't Ridge going back to his wife Brooke?

Thanks! I'm new to posting on the board, even though I've come here and read through the comments from time to time. I'm right there with you about Tridge and all the praising they get. I've been to other boards where people praise Tridge non-stop, and while everyone's entitled to their preferences, it just doesn't sit well with me that all the problematic elements of the Tridge pairing are downplayed or ignored in favor of elevating them over Bridge and any other pairings Ridge had over the years. I'm not much of a shipper, but it still doesn't settle well with me. From where I stand, Ridge only chooses Taylor whenever he's upset with Brooke, there's been some kind of manipulation, and because he's bought into the fantasy that Taylor is such an upstanding, classy woman, and that's nowhere near true. Back when Taylor's night with James was revealed, Ridge had a moment of clarity and called Taylor out on her hypocrisy, since she had been looking down her nose at Brooke for all those years.

I remember Brooke's conversation with Taylor after that, too, where Brooke admitted that she had always felt lesser because of being unfavorably compared to Taylor, and she called Taylor out on failing to stop Stephanie's harassment of her since they'd known each other. I was glad the tide was beginning to turn then, because Taylor truly does behave as if she's perfect, and she's offended if anyone dares to question or challenge that perception. Brooke is far from perfect, but I've yet to see Brooke acting as if she's never done anything wrong in her life. And maybe that's got to do with the fact that Brooke pays for her mistakes no matter how small they are, whereas Taylor constantly employs some form of a Get Out Jail Free Card with hers.

Buy a baby for your daughter to adopt, without checking to see if the arrangement is legitimate? Just be Taylor and all's well. Drive while intoxicated, accidentally kill your sister-in-law, and then rope your grief-stricken and frightened daughter into helping you cover it up while you romance the sister-in-law's widow? Just be Taylor and it's all good. Start an intimate relationship with your daughter's first love, just to get back at your ex-husband's wife, and it causes your daughter heartache? Just be Taylor and all is forgotten. Shoot a man in his own home and leave him to die, because you think -- but don't know for certain -- that he raped your daughter? Just be Taylor and you'll never see the inside of a jail cell for it. It's really ridiculous with the things Ridge lets Taylor get away with, where if it were Brooke or even another woman, he'd never let them live it down.
