I want to pick up on a theme from a thread immediately below. It’s about holding characters accountable. Whether that accountability comes in the form of hardcore jail time, ostracism or rejection, not being able to have the one thing you want in this world, financial loss, public embarrassment, name calling or maybe even physical pain. When the show tells the fans to forget about it, I think there’s usually some blow back against the character. Take Taylor, I wonder what would have been the benefits of Taylor being arrested and going through a trial, maybe even losing her license even if she gets off for some dumb reason. I wanted a Taylor character in show although I never cared for her. I had no idea anyone would think it’s OK to pretend she didn’t shoot Bill in the back. The fallout from a trial would be amazing. However, it’s my opinion that the powers that be do not one want Steffy to ever be embarrassed or suffer for her behavior so that story was not going to happen. I honestly believe Sinn would be so popular if Finn had dumped Steffy for her one night stand with Liam and Steffy had to fight for real to get him to forgive her. I’m not sure how the writers think about characters. I think real accountability is part of the equation, especially if it’s a redemption story.

I have always felt the shooting ruined the character as someone that was indifferent to Taylor the shooting and the aftermath made me dislike her. Too much hypocrisy. And it was written that way on purpose the character was gone for years it would have been so easy to have just said she spent time in a mental hospital instead we were just supposed to pretend it didn’t happen while she pointed fingers at everyone around her.

Instead, we're told she is a world renowned psychiatrist. I wonder what her patients would think if they knew they were being counseled by an attempted murderer.

True. Look at Taylor’s past. She is an alcoholic, she actually killed one person and attempted to kill another. She has slept with more men than she can even count or remember. Like Brooke, Taylor has been through the Forrester men but including Brooke’s son Rick. In those days, I always thought she wanted to be Brooke going after the same men that have loved Brooke. Rick, I believe was the last straw for Taylor.
Taylor is weak. She always has been and should not be counseling anyone. Should have lost her license along time ago. JMO

It turns me against the Tridge family when they constantly throw Brooke's past in her face, but no one mentions their past. Thomas is the only one of the Tridge family that has faced the least amount of consequences at all and he got by with chasing Emma to her death and standing and watching her die. Shooting someone in the back and getting by with it is beyond ridiculous, but for Taylor to put Brooke down with that in Taylor's past is just plain hypocritical. Miss Paternity Test Steffy putting Brooke down was ridiculous. They need to sweep around their own doorsteps before they sweep around someone else's. A little accountability could make me not dislike the characters as much.

I wrote the Taylor character off because she was never held accountable, in any way, for shooting Bill in the back and leaving him to die.

I can't stand the Steffy character, in part, because she's a spoiled brat who thinks the world revolves around her instead of the sun. However, I might be able to sympathize with her at times and like her a little if she were ever held accountable for the horrid things she does. She gets away with everything. Finn just looks like a stupid fool for letting her act the way she does. The most recent example is Steffy and her violent temper slugging Sheila when Sheila wasn't threatening her. I don't expect Steffy to like Sheila, but hitting her was too much. And Finn applauded that. Finn, a doctor, and Sheila his biological mother who gave him life, even if she did shoot him accidentally. A spouse shouldn't be okay with their spouse slugging anyone. Finn is nothing more than Steffy's lap dog and purse holder. And Steffy is a narcissistic bully who gets away with everything. Maybe BB wants us to hate her. I don't know. But if he does, he's sure playing his cards right. I have to applaud Liam for walking out on her when he found out she banged his dad and needed a paternity test. I felt slightly sorry for Steffy that day. But lately, no way. As long as a bully character never pays, they are going to be hated by some. And I want to make it clear I'm talking only about characters, not real people.

Steffy has paid dearly many times. For example, after her ONS with Bill she was left on the ground pregnant and begging, and was alone for years after that pining for Liam. That was not getting away with anything. As far as Steffy punching Sheila, although I don’t approve of any of the woman-on-woman cake fights, paint fights, pushing, punching, etc. that B&B does, that was Sheila being held accountable for shooting Steffy and Finn. I don’t see Finn as a stupid fool for not objecting to his wife showing she’s no longer going to be bullied by the criminal who shot him and then shot his wife when she was trying to call 911 to save his life. Thinking her husband was dead for months was another case of Steffy suffering. She paid at the end of the silly “war on the Logans” storyline by losing the war; her mother was left at the altar and her family was not reunited. So I disagree with the assertion that she gets way with everything. In my mind she is held accountable/loses in the end more often than not, even when I don’t think she’s done anything wrong. Having Finn is a rare exception of her winning. :-D

She's done many more things that she's never held accountable for. They've been enumerated in this thread, so I won't go into them again. Until she is held accountable, I can't have any sympathy for her at all. I don't even want to see the character any longer. She's such a bully. Unfortunately, she's inserted into other people's SLs at times.

She had an excellent opportunity to hold Sheila accountable but she refused to take it. After that she had only herself and her lapdog of a husband and cowardly mother to blame. Hitting Sheila is not holding her accountable in any way. They all played a huge part in setting her free, so after that they had zero right to say or do anything to her. They all need to sit down and shut up.

Ain't that the truth!
Not only is Sheila a free woman because of their own stupidity letting the golden opportunity of holding her accountable slipped away. But Sheila actually saved Steffy's daughter's life and that witch Steffy rewarded Sheila by violently shoving her and slapping her too.

Shown on screen, Steffy blackmailed Bill. Yet, she told Ivy (and Liam too) that “blackmail is a crime”. Per Steffy’s own words, she IS a criminal cuz she has blackmailed.

No, that was not Sheila being held accountable. These characters will NEVER let it go, never stop with all the punching, hitting, slapping and cheap shots. Sheila being held accountable happens in a court of law, not at the end of Steffy's fist.

But this brings up a great point that even if "held accountable," it's not enough and the haranguing will go on into eternity like it did for Brooke supposedly stealing all these men.

Here’s my take on the Sinn story you mentioned:

The writers did the right thing with Finn’s reaction.

Finn knew Steffy was vulnerable to Liam. He’d seen her in the midst of an addiction that was partly caused by depression over Liam.

He did the right thing standing by Steffy. He proved that she meant so much to him that he wasn’t going to bail. It’s a lot easier to run away and hold a grudge than to forgive but for Finn, Steffy was worth fighting for.

This was early in the romance and I think the show was considering putting Leffy back but thankfully for my tastes, they didn’t.

In the meantime it gave Finn the chance to show me how STRONG he actually is because he didn’t give up. He didn’t treat her cruelly or try to punish her. He was willing to love her child even if it wasn’t his.

Steffy needed this and Liam needed that kind of competition.

I’m glad the show gave Steffy a good man to fall in love with and this one can actually compete with Liam, who is extremely tough competition. Wyatt and Bill weren’t up to the task because they weren’t as good of a person as Finn is.

I’m thankful that Liam can’t just crook his finger at Steffy now and she’s going to run to him. She has now seen what it’s like to have a wonderful man be on her side. She needed that.

I don’t really think he’s enabling her though because she hasn’t really done anything since the parent trap and that was something she was doing for her mom and Finn doesn’t know the whole history.

Problem is, if Finn is mean to Steffy than he’s going to lose her because it would take only a nudge to make Liam The One again. Liam has an advantage Finn doesn’t: Hope.

If that's all it takes then they really aren't any kind of supercouple now are they? She may as well leave him now rather than later then because it seems like the only reason he doesn't speak up is because he's afraid she'll leave him for Liam and not necessarily because he agrees with her.

She did commit assault and battery against Sheila, and no matter how Finn feels about that, he shouldn't condone it. It was totally unprovoked. Sheila posed no threat at the time to Steffy. I can well understand why Steffy would hate Sheila, but slugging her is way over-the-top nasty. I'm not sure Hope wants Liam at the moment. I hope she does at some point, but I don't think she does right now. And does everyone have to have a romantic partner all of the time? Brooke has spent great lengths of time alone.

Sorry, I have to disagree. Assault and battery is absolutely doing something and it is wrong. And really, if Finn has to walk on eggshells or "risk" losing Steffy, then she isn't worth his time.

What would he not agree with exactly? He was ok with destroying a marriage using tricks and lies. He was ok with Steffys one night stand with Bill and her cheating on her husband. He was even ok with setting Sheila free to protect Steffys mother who committed attempted murder. He put his own kids at risk because of Steffy. I'd be interested to know where Finn would draw the line at not agreeing with Steffy.

Yes steffys git the good guy:love

She got a lap dog, not a man. He enables Steffy's bad behavior, which a really loving husband would never do. I like TN but not the writing for Finn.

i dont think he would be afraid to speak out if he didnt agree :-)

What would he not agree with exactly? He was ok with destroying a marriage using tricks and lies. He was ok with Steffys one night stand with Bill and her cheating on her husband. He was even ok with setting Sheila free to protect Steffys mother who committed attempted murder. He put his own kids at risk because of Steffy. I'd be interested to know where Finn would draw the line at not agreeing with Steffy.

Now that you've pointed all that out, I can see he's not a good guy at all. He's just there, might as well be a mannequin. I feel kind of sorry for the actor, the writing for him is so bad.

It really is. It's not that he's not a good guy. As the men on the show go, he's probably one of the better ones. But he really does need to grow a backbone with Steffy. He has it with all other characters, including his own mother(s). So why not Steffy? I understand he loves her deeply, but loving someone does not mean enabling them at every single point, even if they're very obviously wrong.

I'd say he's one of the better guys, too. But he does need to stop enabling Steffy when it's something she shouldn't do, like punch Sheila. Steffy could have ended up in jail for that. I don't think Deacon is going to enable Sheila on anything bad. I think, right now, Deacon is one of the good guys, too.
