Naming Eric’s ailment is important (General)

I wonder how many viewers have looked up diseases that cause people to cough up blood? I know soaps are not all that serious and details don’t matter but I think in this case getting a diagnosis is important. Eric is a legacy character. He’s the patriarch not only of the main family but in many ways of the show itself and I think viewers should get a diagnosis. Is that really too much to ask? I would keep it simple and make it a very rare form of TB. While it is true that toxins and chemicals in fabrics can cause harm, would not others expose to the same fabric become sick. The only other option is that someone is poisoning Eric. That’s illogical to me, but who knows? I started thinking about that possibility after watching Eve’s sister on YR after all these years. That story came out of the blue, so who knows what’s in store for us related to this story. I can’t imagine there’s a villain behind Eric’s illness but I don’t know what to think. There was a spumor that someone would is vehemently opposed to Donna and Eric’s relationship. I thought that was going to be her father, but that was not the case so I don’t know if there’s any connection to that. I guess I think it’s time to Name that Cause.

It's past time to name it, but I have to think they are not naming it to have the freedom to cure him. I don't think that it's a writing mistake that they have not named it. I think it's on purpose, but they are making everyone look stupid because Ridge would do ANYTHING for Eric, so would they all. That means talking to specialists who have some damn knowledge. They also have money, so it's unbelievable that they cannot know what it is.

But Steffy said very plainly that they do not.

She sure did which makes this storyline stupid…

This is definitely not a writing error. It is purposeful either because the diagnosis would make us suspicious. Or, as you said, they want the freedom to cure it without misrepresenting an illness and providing false hope to viewers watching.

I don’t know. I get what you’re saying. Vagueness leaves the door open. I think or maybe I’m hoping that there’s a twist there that we cant imagine. I’m looking for the viewers payoff and I think there must be more to it then the stereotypical last minute cure.

Yeah, I agree, but that's B&B right now. Stereotypical and last-minute.

I agree. This can just be Finn researches and finds a cure. I just wonder what the surprise is. Is it nefarious circumstances or is the solution what is surprising to the audience?

I agree. It is one thing to have a riveting story line, but if you are going to hook a illness or disease onto it, with people at home maybe having some of the same symptoms, then by golly you better do better than this and not confuse us all the time.

I am not too concerned with the tremors, old age can bring that on, but coughing up blood is not normal and Eric should be worried about that. Just not eating much is not the cause of that. And if he is remiss in not eating a good diet, then Donna needs to make him more smoothies and a doctor put him on some diet he can handle.

And that doctor worries me too. He does not speak up enough to give us a clue if he knows what he is doing. He just pops in and pops out. And he lets Eric pooh pooh everything he says when he does say anything.

Time to bring in Finn and Bridget.

I thought the doctor might be behind Eric's illness, but today he wanted Eric in the hospital for tests, and I don't think he'd want that if he were behind Eric's illness. So, I've ruled out the doctor. I still think it's an allergy or a medication interaction.

Surely I misunderstand. Are we to believe that Eric up until now has refused to do thorough testing. So again, what are they basing a death sentence on and if he has TB he would need to be quarantined from others. Has that changed?

All of this is corect and that is why I don't think he is dying. A legacy character woud not die from an unnamed illness.
The one difference with the Eve story is while we had no idea who Claire was we have known from the beginning she was up to no good. Luna would be the obvious guess just because she is new and her appearance coincided with his illness but that seems ike a huge stretch.

I remember that storyline spoiler with Donna/Eric but it was quite a long time ago I had assumed the story was dropped for one reason or another.

They will never name the disease because “it”will be cured.
They don’t want to name a disease and find some easy cure.
I predict Christmas!

I will name it...

Ridiculitis

I never thought Eri would die, but when I learned that Ashley Jones was returning as Bridget, I have been of the opinion that she will work with Fin and Eric's doctor to figure out what is wrong with him.

That's what I thought too...as soon as I read that Finn and Bridget would work together to save a "patient" I was convinced this must be Eric and of course he will survive because they wouldn't let both Finn and Bridget (Eric's daughter!) fail!
