There had to be a better way (General)

For all the complaining I have done about the possibility of Thope, I continue to think surely there was a better way. Although I may not ever be able to understand why Hope is fantasizing about Thomas, I have to believe that a great writer could have made me question my beliefs. I think all I needed was to have compassion for something that happened to him in his childhood or respect for his smarts like so many have for Sheila or Quinn. I think we needed a more complete story about what drove Thomas. There are too many holes in Thomas story to bring along fans like me. Right now, I see him as a spoiled rich brat who is used to getting his way. It’s hard to have empathy for someone like that.

I had a dream that I was talking to Susan Flannery about this character lol, and I said I thought maybe he had been on drugs or alcohol and hadn’t gotten off them in the right way (because if you don’t wean, you can go in withdrawal which can cause terrible symptoms).

And then I said if they wanted Hope to have a thing with another man, “I keep saying Carter or Zende would have been perfect!” Lol. Because I do keep saying it because it’s true!

And I said Thomas needs a new love. He does. He needs a fresh start away from the Hope/Lope saga in which he was a villain and to start his own relationship and stories.

Carter or Zende can keep Lope apart so Steffy can be in the middle of a triangle and choose Liam over her sweet husband Finn, since that’s what the show wants so bad. Thomas didn’t need to be the “other man” role for Hope.

I guess in my mind the timing is so wrong. Thope should have happened ages ago. Thomas could have been the hero in Hope’s tragedy. On the other hand, it’s too soon in that Thomas needs to prove he’s capable of loving someone else. I just can’t enjoy a Hope story about her fantasizing about Thomas because it is so illogical to me. I have put down one of my favorite characters over a fantasy because I find just the possibility of Thomas and Hope so objectionable. Yet, I want MA to have a great story and I want AN to have a great story and I want Liam to be free of Hope and Steffy because the waffling between them has weakened him.

I don’t think Thope was ever a good idea. He was an adult when she was a toddler so that’s icky to me, and they lived together no less.

AG’s Thomas attempted to rape Hope in Cabo.

Hope has never been into him like he wanted and she preferred Liam to him.

A man she hasn’t chosen Liam over is what she needs to make a believable triangle.

Wasn't he married to Gabby when Hope was still a toddler?

I don’t see great a romantic chemistry. I see a strangeness that I don’t find romantic or even hot, but to each their own. We are all entitled to our interpretations.

It does feel like being a rich, handsome Forrester is supposed to be enough, and he has a large fanbase that seems to agree with that. The same could be said for Bill, though. And people love him to, IMO he has done worse than Thomas.

I think Thomas and Steffy are supposed to be like their grandmother, but Stephanie had a depth that Thomas lacks (Steffy is better)
Villains and anti-heroes resonate differently for everyone. I like Sheila but Quinn, not so much. Thomas is grey. I don't hate him or like him. I prefer Deacon to Bill. People find ways to justify the character's actions based on their own value systems.

I felt neutral about Thomas until the Beth story. I think you are right about a personal value system. Emma was such an irrelevant character, but watching Thomas smirk about her car crash knowing that she was racing to go tell someone about Beth irritated me. He yelled at his son about it and he did it all to win Hope. These kiddie stories get me every time.

I recall hearing the Tridge Mafia harp on and on and on about how Brooke never changes, even after they knew Sheila drugged her.

They did say that but I’m talking about what viewers have seen of the character on screen over the years. I’ve actually seen a lot of change in Steffy over the years too. To date change for Thomas has only been teased.
