They are playing the sound of Hope's heart beating louder and faster in almost every episodes now. The first time was when she was sitting at her office and staring at a portrait of Thomas on her desk. Again when Thomas massaged her neck and in numerous other scenes in the meantime. It always happens when she thinks about Thomas, when he touches her or when she is alone and close to him in a room.
In every romantic movies or TV shows I've watched, whenever someone's heart speeds up it's done on purpose to show the character is falling in love with another person.
