Classic B&B had bad writing at times too (General)

We all know how bad the writing and storytelling is on the current show, but classic early 90’s had some bad writing here and there as well. I’ve been watching seasons 1-5 on youtube and the worst storyline so far is the hopeless storyline with Stephanie & Ruthanne. I’m at the part now where Steph is back home, has her memory back but pretending not too. Anyways, the BAD part of this storyline is the homeless part. It’s absolutely ridiculous and poorly written.

The writers make being homeless seem like a lifestyle choice which it isn’t. When Stephanie was found, without her memory yet intact, she wanted to go back living on the streets instead of staying in her mansion. Ruthanne & Adam also seem like they’d rather live on the streets than to accept Stephanie’s offers for a place to stay (Forrester mansion). They also won’t accept food, they also won’t accept new clothes. Stephanie has offered them these things a few times now and they say no thank you.

I don’t care how ‘proud” Ruthanne is, NO person who is homeless living on the streets would say no to anything Steph offers. It’s unrealistic and stupid. The writers, like I said, make it look like homelessness is a lifestyle choice. I know lots of people loved this storyline but I hate it and can’t wait until its over and Ruthanne and Adam are gone from the show completely.

This is the first storyline from the golden era that has been a complete miss for me. I assume this storyline was given to Bradley to write, as he always loved writing social commentary into his storylines. His father however, was never much a fan of that. We all know how bad Bradley is at writing the show now a days, and this homeless story has his fingerprints all over it.

Thoughts?

Simply I think that story line made Stephanie more lovable if that was possible.
And yes, Brad Bell wanted to make his audience to know this problem existed right there within the
throws of Los Angeles, something that Queen Stephanie in her own little world would not have known existed.

I see what you are saying. To me though, its not really making Stephanie seem more lovable though. Sure, she wants to help Ruthanne, BUT she’s using the situation (including her lying about still not being able to remember) to thwart Brooke and get Eric back. She’s even hired her private detective friend to install cameras in Brooke’s lab to catch her and Ridge doing something they shouldn’t be doing. At this point in the storyline, she cares more about manipulating everyone to get Eric than she does about helping Ruthanne. And with Adam, she’s making it look like she still loves him, which is leading him on, when she actually doesn’t.

This storyline doesn’t redeem Stephanie and her past actions at all lol.

I see your side but I differ and think that is what Bell was concentrating on.

That is what I got out of the story line and that part was not badly written IMO.

Years and years later Stephanie found herself in that part of the city again and
released a colorful scarf that flew away to the high winds, and my heart ended up in my throat, it was
so memorable. Once again it was PAS and Bell at his best.

I do like the part of the story of Stephanie lying about getting her memory back & using it to get Eric back though. That’s CLASSIC Stephanie! She was, to me, soaps all time best character (not that I’m an expert in daytime soaps. The only 2 soaps I ever watched was Another World from the very late 70’s when I was a little kid to early 80’s to its cancellation (it was on everyday in my house in Canada from the time I was born in 1972… and B&B from 1996 to present, although I haven’t watched it much the past couple years).
