Eric never loved Quinn and Carter doesn't love her either (General)

Most people on the show know about each others sins and flaws... For example Brooke and Ridge know about their worst dirt and somehow still have feelings for one another. Eric and Stephanie learned all of their nasty secrets and somehow at the end ended up together and had a bond and love for one another. Hope and Liam been through hell and back and love each other with all the bad memories. Liam knows Steffy for the nasty scheming witch she is and has love for her. Same goes for most couples, but... When it comes to Quinn... Who ever really loved her? It seems only Deacon was able to accept the real her till almost the end until she pushed him too far...

Bill- He didn't give a damn about her. She was a sex toy for him.
Eric- He loved her act of a changed woman and the way she looks, but each time he found out that she cheated or schemed against his family members he had to leave her for some time before he lied to himself that she really is changed and forgave her again... He never loved the true Quinn and he doesn't even know about Quinn spiking drinks and planning murder in cold blood or that she was ready to never see Wyatt again just to run off with an amnesiac man.
Ridge- He literally hated Quinn until he saw her naked and he took some sick pleasure in kissing her behind everyone's backs just to not care for her once it all came out.
Carter- He knows maybe 20% of her crimes or less... He has no idea who he is lusting for. What do they have in common? All they did together was complaining about lack of sex and having sex in secret. This guy doesn't know her!

It's impossible to truly love a witch like that. Only Sheila is worse.

Eric fell for her right after the Adam gate. He loved her until didn’t anymore. For me Eric is inconsistent. If he could forgive her for the criminal things she did, I don’t see why he was completely turned off by a little scheming. The explanation would be he started lusting after Donna and the whole ED issue, the fact that he was ok with Carter sleeping with Quin, it was only because he didn’t want to recognise that he wanted another woman

You make good points. But, let carter have Quinn and then when she doesn’t want him anymore she can shove him off another cliff.

Carter will have the same issues as Eric....the minute Quinn schemes again and she WILL, Carter will get upset. Carter is a flawed fool, but he's not the type to be okay with Quinn being a bully purposely schemes and harms others.

Shown on screen, Steffy blackmailed Bill. Yet, she told Ivy (and Liam too) that “blackmail is a crime”. Per Steffy’s own words, she IS a criminal cuz she has blackmailed.

Love has little to do with past history of behaviour. If it did, there'd be very few couples on the show. Eric married Quinn knowing full well what her history was. He may have thumbed his nose at his family by marrying her, but he did love her. Very much actually, as was shown on the show. Anyone who married someone thinking that they can be magically "changed", is either tragically foolish or an idiot. However, Eric and Quinn were happy for a long time. As for Carter, he may be just as foolish as Eric, but he does love Quinn. It may have begun as lust, but obviously evolved into much more. We, as viewers, may feel that some characters are more deserving of love than others, but most of the characters on the show have had some very shady behaviour. If we use their history as some sort of guide to a character's worthiness for love and happiness, then there'd be a whole passel of individuals on the show living alone.

Here’s my take on the writing…

Eric is driven by romance and sex. When he lost his ability to have sex with Quinn, it destroyed his ego. After all, I think it’s part of the reason why he was attracted to her. You may recall because with Bill, Quinn was a wild woman in the bedroom. So in my opinion, sex got her Eric and sex is how she lost him.
