It wasn't just the dad. they had issues with a cruel mother as well.
It also came out that her father was a raging drunk who was grooming her to be hard and mean, and she became hard and mean to everyone BUT her children, who she indulged and spoiled and conditioned them to believe, they were better than everyone else.
