The reason Eric doesn't want them to know

Donna called the doctor because Eric almost passed out.
They probably would call the doctor often if Eric would allow it.

Donna had to tell Eric that she was afraid today.
I understand that he wants to die on his own terms, but Eric has to stop pretending that he doesn't
realize the seriousness of the situation and the position he is placing RJ and Donna in.

Should they let him choke on his blood the next time he has a coughing fit, or not catch him when he gets light headed and starts to teeter?

Eric really has placed them in an impossible position. They can't pretend not to care.

Eric knows he is dying. He is not pretending that he isn't. Donna called the doctor and the doctor did nothing. Eric has a right to refuse treatment. Let him choke on blood? Or steak or chicken or martinis maybe?
