JH says:

[RJ] is back for a very specific reason,” teases Hoffman. “I’ve been enjoying seeing different parts of his character.”

He has also said in other interviews that there are scenes where RJ and Ridge dont see eye to eye

Soap Hub interviewed him.

I wonder if Ridge and RJ don't see eye to eye about Thomas. Maybe Thomas gets jealous or feels threatened by RJ and tries to give him a hard time.

or maybe RJ isnt a fan of his father- that would be a new twist
