I found Deacon and Sheila to be a waste too. I think the acting and scenes between the others is far more interesting.

Those scenes between Deacon and Sheila just seemed like filler to me. They served no purpose other than showing Sheila to be just as delusional and psychotic as ever. Does anyone really care what those two do?
