And I really don´t understand this story...I could maybe Hope see a bit tempted if she and Liam were in trouble, for a longer time now perhaps, Liam again straying, perhaps even cheating...this could maybe make Hope susceptible to Tom´s advances or wanting to pay her husband back in his own coin...but so out of the blue? What were the writers thinking?

So out of the blue indeed. I get that she doesn't want a court battle over Douglas but ignoring Thomas' actions and behaviour towards her mother is so unHope.
