The Pinecone Epiphany

I found it clever that Ridge was on the balcony contemplating who his destiny really is and the pinecone hit him on the head as though it was a sign from above. Getting a sign from above was certainly better than either of his kids telling him who to be with for the umpteenth time. It didn't feel forced or awkward. It felt like the pinecone as a sign from above was trying to tell him to go where's he wanted to go for awhile now and he obviously picked up the hint.

Well, during his flashbacks of Taylor he heard his kids' voices in his head. So they still told him who to be with, the pinecone just made him listen to their pleas after all. For months he had been strong enough to withstand their badgering, but now that he believes his kids have been right about Brooke letting him down again, he thinks the pinecone is a sign that his kids have also been right about Taylor being the better woman for him. And that was a lot more forced and awkward than it would have been if he had come to that conclusion on his own while standing on the balcony. Given how the flashbacks of Taylor and his kid's pleas were instantly followed by flashbacks of Brooke, it was obvious that he still didn't know what to do. Even after Brooke's alleged betrayal he wasn't ready to leave her yet. It still took some more outside interference in the shape of the pinecone to make him head off to Aspen. So nothing tells me that Taylor is where he has wanted to go all along.
