Why doesn’t Liam trust Hope

Well, he didn’t then and now, I don’t see what he means with Thomas getting in Hopes head. Doesn’t he trust her to be intelligent enough to know what is best for her son or is he worried of Hope spending a lot of time with Thomas ?
