Why did they choose a sad story over a fun one (General)

How are they going to fix Runa? Can they fix them? I will be upset if the Forresters get rid of Luna or Zende after what Eric, Ridge and Thomas intentionally did or tried to do with drugged women who were married to or involved with their relatives. Then, some of us will be upset if they pull that same old stunt, the woman is attracted to or in love with the man. So I am just obsessed with getting rid of this story because I think it was a huge mistake to do it this way rather than a more soapy exciting young adult story. Why wasn’t it enough to make Luna Bill’s or Jack’s daughter, even making her Finn’s daughter would have been soapy because has no memory of sleeping with his aunt. That would fit right into this soap. I just want it to go away. It’s cringy. I saw the preview again and I just shook my head.

It’s a soap, so they can fix whatever they want to fix. LOL. For me, it’s obvious that Runa is the viable couple here and Zende is just an angst for Runa.

The angst was made creepy for me between the show having the family knowing about Luna’s sex life and her hallucinations. I will never believe sleeping with someone while high is a story with worthy angst. A much much better story would have been for Luna to have a crush on Zende but it’s unrequited. RJ wants Luna but it’s unrequited until Zende tries to help out his little cousin only to end up falling for Luna. That’s way more soapy.

They won’t get rid of Luna but I’m sure this is a way to write Zende out. One more down….

I don’t think Zende is going anywhere. If he were leaving it would have been at the three year mark when his contract was probably up. I think he is here to stay.

I feel like something happened with the dad storyline. Perhaps they were waiting for Ted King to be available or something? So they needed something to fill in. But. agree they could have done a fun story where Luna developed a crush on Zende because he is older and more mature.
Making Finn Luna’s dad would be equally dark though. An aunt sleeping with her nephew when he is intoxicated and never telling him he has a daughter is not soapy it is despicable. Far worse then what transpired between Luna & Zende. If we don’t want rapey storylines for women the same should go for men.

I agree with all of this! The fact that since November it was hinted that Luna does not know who her father is, and here we are in April still clueless about his identity, suggests there may be behind-the-scenes issues causing the delay. It could be due to Ted King's unavailability, with production waiting until he can appear onscreen for the reveal, or perhaps the writers have not yet decided between Bill and Jack as Luna's father. I still think it is Jack, or else they would have just revealed Bill as the dad months ago. I hope they can reach a deal with Ted and have him on the show even if it's just for a few episodes to conclude that story. I wish they would at least give Poppy an internal monologue where she speaks to herself and we find out Jack is the father through that.

Thank you for pointing out the cognitive dissonance. If Finn were the father, it would make the storyline much darker. Given how they are handling Luna's current story and their past stories of a similar nature, it's clear how they might approach a plot involving Finn, a barely legal adult, not remembering sleeping with his aunt and conceiving a child.

That’s good speculation. It’s taking way too long. I guess they wanted to give ddm a meaty story as well but I don’t see how a supporting character can come back from this plot. People make excuse for lead characters all the time.
