What happened to the days when exes were exes

Idk about real life. I never went through it and don't know how modern families do it but I have seen a lot of confusion with the relationships that then causes confusion for kids, just like shown on the soap.

Douglas is the main one showing confusion because he's sensed all this time the unhealthy undertones between the married hope and Thomas. That's why he kept asking to be a family even though she was married/committed to Liam.

The tridge kids went through the same thing because they saw first hand the unhealthy relationships and their mom always waiting on ridge.

I don't think there's any way a child can see their parents break up and reunite over and over and not believe spending time together might start a reunion. It is confusing if the parents don't make it clear. When adults can't even understand complicated relationships, I don't know how kids are supposed to.

It goes that way if parents despise each other, too. I'd think parents need to watch how they present relationships to their kids.

The stories they told in the past were not co-parenting stories. They were of exes trying to get a love back.
