Again, and I cannot stress this enough, it's been three months. Three! It's not as though she's been not ready for a year.

They've been screwing for at least nine months so it's not like Douglas had no idea they have been seeing each other. Being in an NSA means nothing to a kid. He just knows that his parents really liked each other and were spending a lot of time together. It gave him hope that they could finally become an official family.
If processing her divorce was so important to her she shouldn't have hooked up with Thomas for at least a year. You don't process it by jumping into someone's bed the day after you got dumped.
