Actually Douglas sounded as if someone already talked to him before..."Why are WE not good enough for you, Mommy?" - "Don´t you love US enough, Mommy?"..."My real mother is Caroline Spencer"...(I got it from a recap, can only watch later)....someone prepared him for this talk.
I thought Thomas and Hope would talk with him together...

Exactly. Douglas knew about both proposals. A kid doesn't need to know all the details of adult business.

And yes, they should have talked to him together.
