The RJ overexposure is driving me away (General)

I just saw an episode count of the last 4 months (October 23 - January 24).
October: RJ leads (20/22)... November: RJ is 3rd (16/20)...December: RJ is 4th (13/19)...January: RJ leads (17/22)
Overall he was on 66 episodes (out of 83). No one was on more, not even Brooke and Ridge.
Nothing against the actor but the overexposure of a young and new character is never a good idea on a soap.
I think he looks too young for the part but that's not the biggest issue. They're making him a bit too upstart and unsympathetic. Zende called him the Golden Child, I think it was spot on. I'm at the point where I'll prefer anyone who tries to stand up to him.
Above all, I don't like how Ridge made him an instant designer. 6 months ago he knew nothing about the fashion world. He was handed everything on a silver plater.
He and Luna have friendly chemistry but they don't look romantic at all. Their sex scene fell flat especially after the Thomas-Hope ones.
He never mentionned Coco's name which implies he used her and was never sincere when they were dating.
Teen romances rarely last anyway but I thought even Xander and Emma were more interesting.
Too many male characters have been sidelined at the expense of RJ, starting with the Spencer family, Zende, Deacon,... Eric's other children are still MIA except for Bridget and Thorne who made a brief appearance. Bring back Kristen or Felicia.
I hope this RJ arc ends soon. I care a lot more about Sinn vs Steam, Thope or Sheacon's stories. Don't take RJ off the show but he should get less attention.

Excellent post⭐️⭐️⭐️
I agree, too much RJ. Nothing against the actor, but imo, he isn’t developed enough to have such a large role. It like they threw him into the limelight but he isn’t ready.
You nailed it :cool :cool

I agree. It´s an overload of RJ and he is not even a charismatic or compelling character. Just a nice boy but that´s not enough to make people want to watch him each day for months.
There´s more chemistry between Zende and Luna than between RJ and Luna.

I for sure will agree with that. Luna and Zende are hot.

I agree. RJ doesn't have what it takes to fill the screen, fill a scene, or fill a room the way Ridge senior did when he debuted at 27.

Exactly! :cool

Or Wyatt. Remember when we first saw him? Or Deacon? Owen? Or even Liam? Marcus? Young Rick or Young Thomas? They threw them into compelling stories right away that involved more people.

On the other hand, it took them like 6 months to give RJ a story and when they did, he was just sitting around drawing! And then sitting around drawing and kissing. There has been nothing compelling until Zende got resentful of him.

Zende had to be brought in to make RJ more interesting. At first I was not really interested in either of them, RJ or Zende, but now I find myself rooting for Zende though they made him the baddie in this story.

They may have tried to make Zende the baddie but I see him as justified. They could have played this out in a much better way though

"Tried" is right. I see why Zende is upset. He's a little too whiney, but I see why he's upset at being passed over. I'm not trying to be racial, but because I'm a minority, I have experienced it and know what it feels like. It kind of adds another layer of it to me that Zende is a minority, adopted, and then passed over by the family. But that's just coming from my experience and I get that others might not see it.

As for Luna, I can't hold him responsible for knowing more about how Luna acts and if she's drunk or drugged than RJ. And if she is lucid and responding, I can't say she's too drunk to consent. I know what the law says, and I respect it. My question is whether he can be deemed as having KNOWN that she was in that state. I know it's controversial about whether Thomas did that with Caroline, but the difference for me is that Caroline was passed out when he started kissing her. Not trying to debate that because I know there are passionate views on both sides and so much time has passed, it's fine with me if people don't think he did. It's a gray area. I'm just saying with Zende, it's less gray if we don't see Luna pass out.

My guess is we see her wake up in bed and don't know either way and that sucks.

Bell already said a couple of times that after Rome, he would focus on the next gen the 20 something starting with RJ, so he is doing exactly what he said he would do..nothing surprising to this viewer. And I actually enjoyed RJ/Luna..it's so refreshing to see new faces!

I'll take RJ/Luna, Bill and Poppy..and hopefully soon Sheacon story too..over the dullest Sinn or creepy Thope any day. Especially don't care to see more bully Steffy hogging my screen..this witch has been inserted into every major storyline for several years already..it's so nice to finally NOT see her inserted into Runa/Zende story. JMO.

Shown on screen, Steffy blackmailed Bill. Yet, she told Ivy (and Liam too) that “blackmail is a crime”. Per Steffy’s own words, she IS a criminal cuz she has blackmailed.

Emma and Xander were not teens. Xander even had a whole life in London, living with and dating Zoe before he moved to LA. And I don't enjoy Thope sex scenes and don't want to see them -- or Runa's. Otherwise, I agree with everything else. "Runa" is "ruining" it.

As far as I’m concerned BB is shooting himself in the foot with Runa. Putting the final nails in the coffin of this show. RJ and Luna are dull as dishwater and I have very little interest in tuning in to any kiddie pool to begin with. That was for summers when kids were off from school and soaps had larger audiences.

Right. And I didn't mind seeing the young folk at the beach, at Bikini, etc in the summer. I didn't mind the young folk back in the day and it was mainly because there were a lot of them. It wasn't just the same two shoved in your face for an entire week!

I remember when Liam/Hope/Steffy triangle from he!! first started..they were a new triangle that the show shoved down our throats for like 3 years nonstop..talk about overexposure back then too. I just don’t see the difference with Luna/RJ/Zende now..looks to me, Bell is doing the same thing with these 3 just like he did with triangle from he!! Nothing new really..since Bell loves triangles. GREAT POST, a character has to gain the popularity of an audience, you can't force a character on anyone. I am remembering when Ridge testified at Caroline Rape Trial, how handsome he was that he looked unreal. This guy (RJ) comes across a little goofy and Mr. perfect, to short and certainly not tall dark and handsome. Actually written right, Thomas should have been the guy replacing Ridge, the last time I checked he is Ridge son too.

Great post. I agree. However, RJ is Brooke’s son. I guess that makes him more deserving. Not to me.
In my opinion, Thomas, like Thorne has always been passed over. Steffy was prize until RJ came around

Very true, Brooke wanted RJ back because of Thomas and Steffy plotting to take Ridge away, she wanted to show that Ridge had a family with her and bingo, here come the annointed one. Bell is so easy to read, let's just watch how this all plays out, should be interesting.

RJ came back to LA on his own..there was never a dialogue of Brooke claiming she wanted RJ back and he came back at her request. Nope.

Of course not! And it’s ridiculous to suggest that he only came back to usurp Taylor’s kids. He’s Brooke’s and Ridge’s son and he has every right to come home from the road. His parents live and work in Los Angeles, his half-siblings live there, his grandfather and aunts live there. How strange that it was just fine for Ridge’s kids with Taylor to have their mother back in town but the son Ridge shares with Brooke isn’t even supposed to come back to town.:roll

Way too late for "written right" on Thomas..they brought him back as a creepy villain who did evil to Beth and her family..NOTHING will ever erase all the evil things Thomas has done.

And IMO, RJ was a great cast..the actor looked the part as Bridge's son and the actor is great looking and talented.

BellaSole, Beverly Hills, California, 2/12/2024, 3:47PM (366 days ago) @Nissi.L

It's Luna I cannot stand! She's so self-indulgent, so absorbed in her cuteness. :puke

I wish she'd just leave and never be seen again. Throw a bucket of water on her and let her melt. She just brings out the worst in me, and Poppy comes in second. I can't watch the show with Luna on there, and I'm finding I'm getting a lot more done now that I'm not watching. I may never go back. And before someone calls me racist or even thinks it, I usually love Asian people and find most of the women gorgeous. But Luna, so fake sweet, just too cutesy cute. She's the cute girl who'd stab you in the back just for the pleasure of the knife going in. Sorry, but she just brings out the very worst in me. I hate that character.

She reminds me of Caroline 1 if Caroline had been a little younger (even though Caroline was supposed to be early 20s, she seemed like late twenties to me).

Caroline started out sickly sweet.

I actually liked her until she refused to take responsibility for her choice to marry Thorne, flirted with Ridge in front of him and said “he has to understand we have a special relationship”, and blamed Brooke for everything and stalked her relationship with Ridge to the point of demanding Brooke prove to HER, that she was pregnant.

Then she claimed to not want Brooke to miscarry yet cried like the world had ended when Brooke was declared not to have had a miscarriage.

So crying that a baby wasn’t dead.

Then, going to the hospital while Brooke was miscarrying to let Ridge know she was leaving Thorne and telling Ridge about the letter incident so that he was mad at Brooke while she was miscarrying.

And the show still expected it to be seen as she was good!

They did the exact same thing to Paris and she was not connected to a main family. I love RJ as a character but they show him too much.
