Baby swapps are usually longer than 9 months on soaps. It was dragged out for years on Y&R and GH. The mother only got her child back when he was graduating. They wrapped it up quite fast, on B&B. They could have extended it a lot more. Zoe-Shauna-Flo weren't going to say anything. If Douglas hadn't overheard his dad and told Liam, it woud only be the beginning of it...

I think it would have ended a lot sooner too if they didn't have to wait till JMW's maternity leave was over. There was no way they could end the story without her, seeing as how Steffy adopted Beth.

Yes, but do they usually have other storylines in the other shows as well? Because B&B certainly didn't - and that's why it felt like it lasted for nine years instead of nine months.

It is really a subjective matter.

I read on many boards how it already dragged out too long for Lope fans, Hope fans, who did not like that Hope missed so many months of being a mother to her first child, missed mile stones of her daughter's growing up (first words, first steps,....).

And at that same time I saw fans (who always have been fans of Leffy) stating that they don't want the reveal to happen too fast because it would be more dramatic if the child would be older and only looking at Steffy as her mother.
These fans stated that baby reveals generally drag out for much longer and that there would be no payoff if it is addressed too quickly and Lope just gets their daughter back.
Others then pushing for their dream ending that Lope in the end should find out that baby Beth isn't really their Beth, so that Steffy should be able to keep her (and Liam?, who had been set up as the girl's father from the moment Steffy adopted her? ).

I don't mind fans wishing for Lope or Leffy.
BUT I had stopped enjoying the boards, when I read fans wishing for Hope's unborn baby to die, to be miscarried again, wishing that she stays dead, wishing that Phoebe would be the child of someone totally different...... , even calling for the child to develop a fatal illness.

I am happy that the "kidnapped and sold child to pay gambling debts"- SL had ended and we can have other SL's again.

Steffy has her daughter, Hope has her daughter back - the mother's have their children at least - I don't mind Liam waffling (as he and all the main male characters do).

I am glad that it had been handled quicker than on Y&R.

I am just disappointed in the way they wrapped it up. No Taylor there to confront and call out Buckingham.
Buckingham having been judged and sentenced offscreen and no confrontations with the parents of the child he took and sold.
They ALL had trusted him.
And he betrayed his patient, the baby's parents in the worst way, while he then "comforted" them about their loss and that they can just try for another baby (now that he had reduced them to unwilling surrogates) betrayed Taylor's trust by offering her a kidnapped baby for adoption.

I watched this Emmy win interview of Bell with MF, and Bell spoke very nicely of AN as you’ve quoted here. Bell was also very complimentary of AN and SC working together as a couple on screen..talking about how the two of them make Hope and Liam “very special”.. :love A great interview! :dance2

There was absolutely no need to drag that thing out for that long. Other soaps have had baby switches and they had other storylines running concurrently.

Thank goodness it's over. Time for other actors to get their storylines.

Yes, they sidelined Rena a walk in barely and made Steffy look like a door mat.....give them both exciting scripts enough lope and mommy Hope kid...it’s a soap not geezer couple scripts

9 months. It could have been longer had they wrote solid B stories and utilized the other actors. I’ve seen baby switch storylines that last for 1-2 years but the soap had other storylines to offer so the viewers weren’t suffocated and ready to quit if the storyline didn’t come to an end. Annika pulled a heavy load for a newbie to daytime and she did a good job. I know it had to be exhausting.

Agree.
It was definitely a heavy storyline. The main complaint I have is the lack of concurrent storylines. They could have gotten more mileage from it, and a bigger share of the ratings.

Agree. The hospital scenes were good, but repetitive after that IMO. It got really stale and flat. SC was begging fans to watch and hinted about a payoff. Sad.

If Bell truly felt that way about AN, he wouldn't write this garbage for her. She basically repeated the same lines for 9 months. Saying she feels guilty for passing out during the childbirth. Saying she could feel Beth was waiting for her somewhere. Ordering Liam to go back to Steffy. Telling Douglas he was exactly what she needed. Praising Flo for the woderful person she is and the sacrifice she made. After 2 weeks, the audience already knew 3/4 of her lines. This year can only be better.

I don't think that actors take the sl as personal as we do. Annika said it was hard, but I bet that she was grateful for the opportunity and for all the screen time and money earned because of it. It also got her an emmy nomination.

Well why would he say something bad about her? :lol

The problem is Hope was whining and crying too much about it for the story line to take at least several years. Looking unstable, making weird decisions, visiting Steffy too often. She was clinging onto Douglas also, like he was some trophy child. The list goes on. I think that is what frustrated me the most. And i ended up not caring about her loss anymore at all.

Brad Bell:
"I was blown away, I mean wow she is such an honest and thoughtful, caring, beautiful, pure actress. She's really the lead reason why we were able to play it out for 9 months."

he was lucky to have found her. I think she's what saved his show.

That's where opinions differ. Steffy is the one who saved this show. That's why she won an emmy. JMO.

there's more than one person with an Emmy on this show. Katie now has five, Wyatt has four. and LIAM has at least three. they must have saved the show a few times too then.

Darin Brooks (Wyatt) has one Emmy and it was from his work on Days, not B&B. So any way you look at it , Wyatt does not have 4.

I often wondered why stars with all these emmys we never see them in movies that’s where the money is....or get their own prime evening show...example justin Hartley moved to prime heck I don’t think he even won a emmy but he has charisma for sure....

Well in my opinion Steffy just has that extra pizazz. In my opinion she has saved this show. She's fierce and powerful. Nobody like her.

Okay, but Brad Bell talked about an SL where Hope was more important than Steffy. Not everything is always about Steffy just like not always everything is about Hope.

I don't think Brad Bell ever said Hope was more important than Steffy.

I think she's a big dud. All talk. For all of her "independent woman" speeches, where did she end up? Right back scheming and manipulating to try to get a man that wants to be with someone else. Same as she's been doing for years and years. Where's the pizazz?

If they get her away from a wimpy guy she will shine

It's ok if Bell compliments Annika Noelle. She is not Hope. ;)
I like both actresses.

Bell complimented Annika for an SL where Hope was a more important character than Steffy.

AN is a very good actress and has made the role of Hope her own, but I still miss KM especially after seeing the old episodes.
