Testing site with limited ads. (Site Feedback)

As longtime site members know, Scott Novick started this community waaaaaay back in 1996, and since then it has grown into one of the largest and longest running Bold and the Beautiful fan communities in the world.

The message board started on Geocities, moved to hotboards and finally found a permanent home here at WorldofBB.com back in 2008. In that time this community has been home to hundreds of thousands of fans across the world. With millions of page views every month, it can sometimes be a challenge to keep everything running smoothly.

As most of you are aware, Scott has decided to take a much needed break from being a part of this site. Normally in a situation like this the site would simply shut down, especially since the site has never had any advertising of any kind, it has never had any revenue that might be used to pay the high costs of running such a busy site. Despite my willingness to continue to support the site and shoulder the costs associated with the large amount of traffic it receives - it became increasingly more apparent that the site would require much more time and effort than I was able to provide in order to keep it running in a way that the community had become accustomed to. The decision to shut the site down in June was not an easy one, but it was absolutely necessary.

During that time I received a flood of requests asking if there was any way the site could be brought back online. I decided I would see if there was a way to bring the site back in a way that didn't require constant attention. Unfortunately, it seems that the site will require some form of moderation if it is to remain online. Additionally, there would need to be more work done to make moderation easier and more transparent. As this site runs a custom codebase that was designed to mimic the threaded look of the original comments board, it is extremely time consuming to make changes and improvements to it. Other communities run full featured forum software that is much easier to work with, so maintaining the site as it is along with finding a way to keep it running is going to require more time than I currently am able to commit to.

And so, I have added very limited advertising on the site as a test run. The goal is to see if the site can generate enough advertising revenue in order to keep it running as well as fund the upgrades that will be necessary to keep the site online and to possibly add new features that people are requesting. Unfortunately, all websites require some form of revenue, and as much as it pains me to do so, this site cannot survive without it.

As the site has never had ads before, the design and placement will change, but the goal is to make them as unobtrusive as possible. Please be aware that the site is still in testing, so ads may not appear accurately, and they may be obtrusive while placement tests are conducted, this is not intentional. The goal will be to include the fewest amount of ads as possible per page.

If the ad testing is successful, then we will begin the process of officially re-launching the site, along with adding new features and bringing back full time moderation. Please feel free to contact me [image] with any feedback you have, as well as any comments or suggestions.
