Why is Thomas not "around as much?"

This story, the more I'm thinking about it, is already setting up bad, though. It's leaving too many holes to the story about why Thomas hasn't been communicating with Hope. Thomas told Douglas that Thomas was "trying" to check with Hope to see how Douglas was, but maybe it wasn't enough. What does that even mean?

We haven't heard one time that Thomas said Hope wasn't responding to him, nor have we heard Hope complain about where Thomas has been.

I'm already disappointed in the SL.
