Gentle Reminders to All - Revised 13-May

by Scott Novick ⌂ @, New York, Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 20:29 (480 days ago)

REVISED: 5/13/2009 Well, it's been over a week since I posted this, and based on what's come up since then, I figured I should revise this a little rather than post yet another post that makes you read on. So please re-read this. I'm going to mark the revisions in red to make them stand out.

Ok, gang. I think it's time for me to get on my Soap Box again, because I've been hitting that little DELETE button quite a few times and might have to do it some more. So please remember the following:

  • The name of this board - you know, the one in the big logo at the top of every page - is, as it always has been, THE WORLD OF THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE BOARD. While I try to be generous about the occasional Off Topic post, it seems to be getting a bit out of hand with talk about Swine Flue, ATWT, Santa Barbara and old Westerns. Not that I have anything personally against such topics overall, mind you. But there's a time and place for everything, but the place for some of this, once the posts start to add up, isn't here. So pretty please try and keep the off-topic stuff down so it doesn't push off the talk about the show this board was built for.
  • Along those lines, please don't take threads that are on topic and make them off-topic. That's not fair to posters who come to the board to talk about the show and all of a sudden see talk change to a Japanese cartoon or an old time radio show. So if the title of a thread is "Bridget and Nick," it's just wrong to all of a sudden find 20 posts about life in NYC, the road to Las Vegas or drinks that are needed.

Along those lines, though, at least for now, don't take that as a reason to start dozens of off-topic threads to discuss the non-B&B stuff. The problem with having a ton of OT threads is that you might be pushing all the B&B stuff away, and that, too, takes us away from the main reason for this board's existence. Now I'm working on something that could help remedy that. But until that's in place, please take care with creating those OT threads too often.

  • Comments about actor's and actress's appearance: Please remember that actor bashing is not allowed here, and some of the comments I see are coming really close to crossing the line. While it's one thing to make a comment about an actor's appearance in a particular episode, I've seen ones that have nothing to do with that and are comments about things the actor/actress chooses to do in his or her personal life, and that's a no-no.
  • Likes and dislikes about actors: Let's face it. Not everyone likes the same thing. That's a fact of life. So far be it for me to tell any poster what actor they think should or should be on the show. But if you want to express the fact that you're not too fond of a particular actor, do it respectfully. You don't have to beat a dead horse and express your distaste in ten different ways in every post. Doing that turns into bashing and arguments, and we don't need that here, do we?
  • Polls about who likes who? While the results might mean something to some posters, no matter who gets the most votes, it still doesn't change the basic premise of this board: it's for discussion of B&B and not of any one character or fan base. So no matter what the results shows (and polls can be skewed by nature), any fan of B&B is welcome here as long as they're respectful of the other posters here.
  • Discussions about posts: In short, they shouldn't happen here on the board. If you see someone post something that you don't think should be posted, bringing it up tends to escalate into some rather volatile discussions, and I don't want that to happen here. And this rule even applies to posting to me to ask about a post; something like that doesn't belong on the board for all to see. If you have a question about whether something belongs, email me. I'll reply back, and if I think the subject needs to be brought up here, I'll be the one to do it. That's why I get that cute little "admin" tag next to my name. :-)

OK, I'm getting off my soapbox. I'm sticking this thread to the top through the magic of this board and I'm locking it to keep it from getting all kinds of responses.

If you have a comment about any of the above for me, please DON'T post it in another thread. Email it to me using the CONTACT link at the bottom of the page or by sending an email to webmaster@worldofbb.com.
